F.A.Q.s – Planning a trip to Italy?

  1. How do I apply for a Schengen visa? What are the requirements? How long is the application process?

Here’s a direct link for the Schengen Visa requirements: http://www.schengenvisainfo.com/schengen-visa-application-requirements/

  1. When is the best time to visit Italy?

The best time to visit Italy is October. The weather is cool and less crowds. The busiest months according to the locals is summer, usually August. Everything in Italy becomes expensive because of the flock of Tourist.

  1. How to get around Italy?

Italy is very Tourist-friendly. They have Day passes good for 24, 48 or 72 hours depending on which city you are in. You can use those day passes to get around the city by train or bus. Of course, nothing beats reading ahead of time how the Metro system works.

It’s also best to buy a SIM card with mobile data so you can easily get to your destination without getting lost. You can buy your SIM cards at any TIM store. You can use Google Maps to guide you on getting around.

  1. When is the best time to book cheap tickets?

According to most people, the best time to book your ticket is 2-3 months before your ideal dates. This is what they call “Prime Booking Window”. When we bought our tickets, it was on a Tuesday so flights happened to be cheap. I guess, it’s best to try booking your flights on a weekday (Tuesday or Wednesday).

Remember, it is best not to book your flight too early and not too late! You should also stay away from booking on a Holiday. Flights are twice the normal price. Make sure to check if the dates of the country you are travelling to don’t fall on a Holiday.

TIP:  The best strategy is to keep checking on the flights you have in mind often and delete the cookies of the website so it won’t remember you. Usually, websites can detect whether you have visited the site and the prices fluctuate.

  1. Where to stay in Italy?

There are a lot of hotels in Italy which can provide you with the accommodation you want. However, we decided to use Airbnb for Rome, Milan and Venice. It seemed practical and provided us the same accommodation as a hotel. Food wasn’t an issue because we went to nearby grocery stores to buy snacks and most of the time, we ate out to try local food.

TIP:  When searching for the perfect Airbnb place, it’s ALWAYS best to look for “Superhosts”. Remember to read the reviews and especially the house rules of the Airbnb you will be staying in.
