#KrisDel Goes To Italy (An Introduction)

Since our Italy trip last October, a lot of people have been asking me how we planned and budgeted the entire trip. This Introductory post is dedicated to answering all those questions and to provide you with a few tips.

Part of our #KoalAdventure preparation for Italia is getting our official luggage covers. Our covers are inspired by our passports and nationality.

You can actually be creative on creating your own luggage covers based on your travel motto and identity.

The details on the luggage cover is amazing!

We booked our flight last June this year so we had four months to save up and prepare for the trip. Now, the biggest question is how much does a trip to Italy cost for two people? Well, here is the actual cost for our entire trip:

CEBUPACIFIC TICKET: P19,850.46

PEGASUS AIRLINES TICKET: $521.28 (P24,500.16) –  P47 TO $1

Our total flying time from Manila to Rome was 24 hours. Take note of our Cebu Pacific flight from Manila to Dubai which took 9 hours. There was no TV to keep us entertained and we opted to bring our own snacks.  We had two layovers- Dubai (DBX) and Istanbul (SAW). The airports are so nice so we didn’t really notice that it was time to board the next flight.

Goodbye, Istanbul! We’ll come back for you!

We actually decided to stay for two days in Dubai to see the city and try the Desert Safari! We’ll tell you more about our Dubai side trip on a separate post.

For accommodation, it was our first time to try Airbnb because it seemed more practical. We won’t be spending much time inside so prioritized location, so we could be close to public transportation and sites. Some Airbnb homes are in really great locations!

For Florence, we wanted to be near the Duomo and the Galleria de Academia (just for David!).  Then, we wanted to stay near the airport so hotels were the best choice for Fiumicino and Dubai.

So, our Accommodation expenses breakdown:

ROME (Airbnb) – 3 NIGHTS ACCOMODATION: P8,517

MILAN (Airbnb) – 2 NIGHTS ACCOMODATION: P7,056

VENICE (Airbnb) – 1 NIGHTS ACCOMODATION: P4,967

FLORENCE (Hotel) -1 NIGHTS ACCOMODATION: P4,605.59

FIUMICINO (Hotel) – 1 NIGHTS ACCOMODATION: P4,884.30

DUBAI (Hotel) – 2 NIGHTS ACCOMODATION: P6,420.52

TOTAL ACCOMMODATION: P36,450.41

Another part of our preparation is listing all possible Train routes to our destinations.

I’d like to emphasize that the overall expenses above is good for TWO PEOPLE! Yep, you read that right! It’s all about waiting for that perfect airfare sale to get to your dream destination. It takes patience, effort and sleepless nights of surfing through several airline websites and even dropping by at Travel Fairs.

It looks hectic but it’s not what it seems. Our first three days were the busiest because we wanted to get around Rome and see everything. (Credit goes to Adel for this detailed itinerary.)
